MY AIM AND HYPOTHESIS

Every experiment has an aim and a hypothesis. An aim is a statement of what you want to achieve or find out. A hypothesis is a statement that shows your opinion of what you predict will happen based on the research you have conducted. My aim for my experiment is "To find out which energy drink has the greatest effect on your heart rate." For my hypothesis i believe that the "monster energy drink" will be the drink that will have the greatest impact in increasing the heart rate. I plan to conduct my experiment in the holidays, as i have been advised that it will be a bad idea to do it during the school term. I plan to start my report this weekend, and i might screen shot it and upload it.

THE VARIABLES

Each experiment consists of variables, there are three variables CONTROLLED, DEPENDANT, INDEPENDENT.
Controlled variables refer to the things that are kept the same [can be more than one thing].
Dependant variables refers to the things that we measure [to the same unit][usually one thing].
Independent variables refers to the things that we change [usually one thing].
In my case my dependant variable is my heart rate, i will measure this in beats per minute. My independent variable would be the energy drinks, i plan to change the brand of the energy drinks. I have a number of controlled variables, I will drink the same amount, I will wait for the same amount of time before checking my pulse.

HOW I CREATED THE IMAGE BELOW

Well after my topic had been approved, i thought of putting up some pictures of the independent variables. in my case this would be the different brands of energy drinks. To begin with i googled each product and saved the image, the next thing i did was open up the photoshop application on my mac, and opened all the images [they were seen as being in different tabs], i clicked on the first image, then i double clicked on the word background located at the bottom right in the layers tab, in order to turn it into layer 0 [zero]. Immediately after that a pop up will come up, and i clicked "ok". the next thing i did was click layer mask located below the layers tab and is the third from the left. Then i clicked the quick selection tool located on the tool bar and i selected the background. I then right clicked and clicked fill, a pop up will come up, and i clicked "ok". The background should immediately turn into grey and white [checkered and tiled], then i cropped it using the crop tool and saved it as a "gif." file in order to keep its transparency [when saved the checkered background will turn transparent]. I repeated these steps with the rest of the images. Once i was done i copied the images and inserted it into a new on photoshop and saved it as a "gif." file.

THE DRINKS I WILL USE

MY APPROVED TOPIC

I was told last week on Friday that the topic i have chosen, which is "Which energy drink will have increase your heart rate the most", since i have been told i have started to research energy drinks and it's effects, i started by googling it and then proceeded by clicking on the links that are closer up the page rather than the bottom. I have been on wikipedia and some other websites. The first priority for researching energy drinks was the health effects and the maximum amount i am able to consume within a time of 24 hours. Then i looked for the prices of the energy drinks. I plan to write up a hypothesis and an aim. The result will be shown as "GUARANA Vs. TAURINE" since all the energy drinks contain a pretty high dose of caffeine.

My 1st Bubbl.us

I have decided that my experiment would be "HOW ENERGY DRINKS AFFECT YOUR HEART RATE". After deciding my topic i have made my first bubbl.us mindmap using the account which i have made last week. The mindmap consists of the ideas i have at the moment. I will add to this in future. I wanted to use VUE but i was told not to. i will upload pictures of the energy drinks i will like to use in a couple of days when i am not to lazy to and when my internet is not as slow. i also plan to use blogger on my ipod so that i can post up pictures when i am not at home.

"Bubbl.us" VS. "VUE"

Well i just took a look at the bubbl.us website and made an account, it seems pretty straight forward and easy to use. You can also customise it i.e. change the colours and fonts. After taking a look at the website, i could see that there are obvious similarities with the application on our macs called "VUE". The main difference is that with bubbl.us can only be accessed through the internet while with "VUE" you do not need the internet. I still need to think of a topic, i'm thinking of maybe doing one that involves energy drinks.

Thinking

Thinking, thinking....
what should i do for science?
Well i just made my Gmail account and is posting on blogger.com
blogger.com is a bit boring it should have more fonts and other stuff like that.
The First thing i am going to do is decide my topics then i will research it while making a brainstorm then i will write up my method and then conduct the experiment.
